Harmonious Design by Kelly McGuill

1.
Kelly McGuill is an interior designer, freelance editorial stylist and consultant. Bose Corporation, The Harvard Square Hotel, Accent Magazine, Better Homes and Gardens and Lexus are just a few of her elite clients. Kelly's spaces are said to reflect "clean lines and beautiful details that take your breath away". Large, wooden urn shaped lamps frame this console vignette. Glass, wood, porcelain and rattan work together harmoniously. Nothing is vying for attention, they all have their place. What a clever touch the three wooden stools add to complete this beautiful vignette.

I came across Kelly's interiors when I spotted an image of one of her projects on Pinterest, I immediately went over to Kelly McGuill Home (her website) to see more examples of her work. Kelly's designs have a distinct style, but also a versatility which is what good design is about. Beautiful, well designed spaces that are not overcrowded or overly fussy. Her clean lines and those finishing touches are what appeal to me. With an eclectic balance of furnishing, I picked out a few rooms that spoke to me.

2. A sense of order appeals to me in this crisp, white decor. The black and white tiles contrast against the wood and lead the eye to the simple shelving display at the end. Again Kelly uses a mix of textures by introducing a touch of pewter with the vintage trophies

3. Most stylists will confess, a bowl of green apples does wonders in a white palette. I love how Kelly has made clever use of iron with the stools and lights above

4. Perfect harmony in this kitchen/dining area

5.  A simple vignette that reflects Kelly's love of symmetry, a factor I personally believe is very important in creating harmony

 6. Kelly cleverly uses a mix of materials in her neutral rooms. A brown leather sofa could make a room drab, however, Kelly has made clever use of light, creating a sense of relaxation, I think the Buddha reflects the calmness in this room

7. Shelves are becoming a popular way of displaying pictures and very effective in a hallway

8. The striking artwork is balanced by the iron chair and iron legs on the rustic wooden coffee table... a masculine feel

9. Kelly not only cleverly combines textures, her choice of furniture all work harmoniously together yet each has it's own distinct style...I think she is sheer genius at what she does.

Kelly's work is versatile, the images above are simply a couple of her projects. What I find most wonderful is the way she introduces unexpected pieces such as the trophies in the bathroom and the cow hide stool above. If you want to see more of Kelly's work or wish to contact Kelly, please visit her website for more details.

  2. Hi Lee
I really like these rooms. There is such an easy elegance about them. Particularly love the worn tan leather sofa. Again i find i'm loving all the white and naturalness of the design. I must try and bring that into my own rooms.

    1. I am not a fan of leather but I must admit I love this sofa too, the room has a relaxed, peacefulness about it.
