An Edgy Renovation - Part Two - Living Room & Bedrooms

My last post featured the kitchen of a Victorian house renovation, an edgy mix of traditional and contemporary furnishing and materials, a renovation with surprising twists and turns. Today I want to share a little more and I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

In the living area a wall dividing two rooms, has been removed to reveal two adjacent fireplaces. Featured panelling divides these two areas with the bonus of built in shelving at each end. I love the symmetry of the fireplaces and the way the natural light floods in from the front and rear bay windows. The dark wood floor is a great contrast to the pale grey colour scheme on the walls and furnishing.

When creating a relaxed interior it is important to get the balance right. This home is about balance and comfort and eliminating clutter, but not so far as to call it 'minimalist'. I would like to  have seen more images of the area to the left of the living room, this would make a lovely formal dining space, however it is a little unclear what this area is used for.

The library room has contemporary panelling and a masculine appeal. Dark walls can sometimes be a little oppressive, however the high ceilings and contrasting white skirting board add a light contrast. In this area, as throughout the house, old and new merge to create a stylish space in which to relax and read.

Below: Two upstairs bedrooms take on a completely different style, opting for rustic floorboards on the walls behind the bed, creating a somewhat Scandinavian appeal. Plenty of light fills these unexpected bedrooms.

I think this renovation would have to be one of the most interesting ones I have featured on my blog for a while. I love its simplicity and the earthy materials used. I will definitely take on board some of the ideas I have seen when it comes to renovating my kitchen. If I had to be at all critical, I would add a few more cushions to the sofa in the living room to create a little more cosiness to that end of the room. However, overall, I love it and wondering if you do too?
