Blue and White in Maine and Simply Home

There is no denying the popularity of blue and white interiors, when I share these posts on our Facebook page, especially if they are coastal style, they usually receive there fair share of interest. So, I am continuing the trend and featuring yet another home in this popular colour combination and style. What I love about this look is its versatility and how it can be adapted to suit most homes, from a beach side bach to a small city apartment, no matter your location, you are bound to feel relaxed and in holiday mode.

Interior designer, Linda Banks of Banks Design Associates is the designer behind this lovely Harpswell home in Maine. Linda has been in the design business for over 20 years and her work has been widely published, including features in Traditional Home, House Beautiful and more. Linda's designs have become so popular you can now purchase accessories and furnishing through her retail store Simply Home (see website). I am probably going to get some criticism but It is times like this that I wish New Zealand were not so isolated as we have limited sources for furniture and accessories, with only a handful of importers and sadly many shops stocking similar, if not the same items. I would love to see a shop such as Linda's, popping up in Auckland.

Focusing on the interior of this Harpswell, Maine home (below), a mix of furnishing has been used in the project with a focus on blue and white and keeping the interior light filled. Both small prints and bold patterns have been used to create a welcoming, cottage look. Vintage furniture combined with new pieces add charm and character to this timeless style.

Designers are not just using valuable antiques in their designs, vintage furniture is extremely popular and items are getting a new lease of life such as the wine table and chest of drawers above. All that is required is a little thought about where to use the piece, plus combining new and old in a unique way. Maybe the piece may require a new coat of paint or simply old varnish stripped off, sometimes nothing more than a pretty vignette is needed to achieve a totally new look.
