A Stockholm Home Reflects the Owners Love of Relaxed Coastal Style

Sofia Nasland is the woman behind Matilde & Co, a homeware store filled with items that reflect Sofia's love of coastal cottage style. Sofia, along with her husband Esbjörn and their two children, live in a picture perfect, New England style, two storey house by the sea. Sofia has decorated combining elements of French, English cottage and New England style for a relaxed coastal look.

A Spacious Swedish Apartment

Sweden is well known for great design especially when it comes to space saving furniture as most inhabitants live in small to medium size apartments. When it comes to style, most of the Swedish interiors I have featured on the blog, look as if they have just been plucked off the pages of Vogue magazine. Today's home tour is an apartment in Vaasa, not the norm as far as space is concerned as it is large with a spacious living area, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The owners have been able to be generous with their furniture and have turned this apartment into a relaxed home with a definite Scandinavian feel.

Home Tour - Swedish Apartment in Linnestaden

From time to time I have featured Swedish interiors, usually they are smaller apartments, however at the same time their owners seem to utilise every little bit of space and  they often appear far larger than they really are so I wasn't at all surprised to find this small but creatively used space in Linnestaden.

The apartment is only two rooms plus a kitchen and the owners have been very clever with their use of storage. These apartments don't normally have built in cupboards like we are used to in New Zealand so everything needs to be freestanding or on open shelving. Look at the clever way they store their shoes. I usually try to hide shoes away but I think this idea works perfectly in this small apartment.

The majority of  Swedish interiors are white, however, I do love it when it is mixed with some texture such as the exposed brick wall which adds a little warmth as too much white can sometimes appear a little cold. The owners of this apartment have an eclectic mix of furniture from contemporary to rustic country.  If you look around you will see clever use of shelving for their books and magazines, such as in the dining kitchen and bedroom.

I am currently in the middle of re-decorating my smallest bedroom and think that some of these shelves would work perfectly, I will be definitely looking around for similar shelving here in Auckland.

A Unique Swedish Interior

I have always felt that Sweden leads the way when it comes to Scandinavian style. When we think of Swedish interior design we think white and bright but this fabulous interior I am sharing today is a little "out of the box" for Swedish style.  This is not just another white interior with minimalist decor, this fabulous home has twists and turns in the way of unusual architecture such as the stone, cave like walls and ceilings in two of the bedrooms.  I love the occasional use of colour against the white backdrop seen in the artwork in the living area and the bold floral wallpapers used on feature walls.  Each room has personality of its own adding interest and life to this fabulous home.

Swedish Style Interior - White & Bright

Sharing a white, bright, stylish apartment in Sweden.  White walls and vaulted ceilings always create an immense feeling of space and are fabulous for showing off artwork. Unlike some white interiors appearing rather clinical, the designer has added personality and warmth by adding the Persian rug with its rich colours and pattern.. The accent cushions, aged leather pouffe (footstool), and other leather furnishings balance the overall look.  Who would have thought, stacked magazines and a medley of pictures could end up a stylish corner (image 3). This lovely interior has personality and order, and for me is a winner!

White & Romantique Swedish styled Interior

This unusual Grade 2 listed ground floor flat in West Sussex in Hove is full of unique features such as the trompe loeil angel wall painting, an amazing 1800's sleigh made into a sofa and many other beautiful pieces of  authentic Swedish furniture.
