Kick Back and Relax In a Small, Fredericksburg Cottage

As far as I am concerned there is nothing more delightful than a country cottage, the perfect retreat from the worries of city life. Standing as if it has been there forever, you could be mistaken for thinking this cottage is located in the countryside of Australia or the South Island of of New Zealand, it would certainly look at home in either of those locations, just as it does in Fredericksburg USA, where it was built.

The exterior architecture of the cottage belies the fact it is a new build. Using traditional materials and built to withstand the test of time, this traditional style cottage is by Bonterra Build|Design. I wanted to learn a little more so I visited their website and discovered an interesting slide show revealing the construction of a similar stone cottage called Monticello. To see it evolve from the architectural drawings to conception is really interesting.

This wonderful cottage has all the charm and character a home needs. In New Zealand the 'bigger the better' seems to rule when it comes to our homes. However for me, after living in a five bedroom, five bathroom house in Brunei and a massive apartment in Abu Dhabi, now living in a small cottage in Auckland, I have come to realise that as long as a home is well organised and has good storage we can live more comfortably and more economically and learn to love our smaller spaces.
