A Spanish holiday casa in Costa del Sol

I was browsing ideas for a friend who is renovating a casa in Spain and spotted this lovely home on the Costa del Sol. The owners have added sisal rugs and patterned kilims, at the same time allowing the beautiful patina of the terracotta floors to shine. The gentle blue tones remind me of the nearby sea and the mix of patterns and textiles add lots of interest. Most of the rooms have an ethnic quality about them, however the dining area is a tad English don't you think? The linen headboard in the bedroom is something I have been dreaming of for some time now and I am excited to say I have finally made one from scratch for my guest bedroom. I will be sharing the step by step, 'easy' instructions when I reveal the complete makeover at the end of next week.

Wander through this wonderful casa at your own pace and enjoy the tour...

  2. Good Morning Lee, I love the use of colour in this Spanish home. The white walls allow the beautiful items to stand out.... and you have just solved a problem for me. I have terracotta tiles in my kitchen and dining room and I also have kilims on my floors, but living in England, they tend to be a little cold underfoot during the winter. I had decided to store them until Spring returns and buy three new woollen rugs to replace them for the winter, but not any more, I love how this family have added sisal rugs underneath the kilims for added warmth. I am now on a mission to find the right sized sisal rugs.
I have really enjoyed my visit, so I have become a new follower. I look forward to reading many more of your posts.

    1. Hi Daphne,

Thank you for your lovely long comment :). I absolutely love sisal and would have it all the way through my home if it was not so expensive in New Zealand. I too am thinking of a large sisal rug in my living room. You can have them bound in leather which looks really lovely around the edges and a little more durable than cotton jute which a lot are bound in. You can also have the edge rolled if the sisal is not so thick. I think sisal is pretty timeless and works wonderfully with terracotta.

Thank you for visiting, please visit again, there are lots of great post coming up.
