Light filled, restful spaces and interesting artwork, drew me to an interior by Designer, Lisa Tharp. Design New England Magazine describes Lisa's work; "Where beach meets Soho". Lisa uses neutral colours and coastal inspired artwork to complete this Boston project.
Spotted on Houzz, by, Lisa Tharp Design, I was drawn to the muted shades of sand and sea. Lisa chose a soft palette for most of the living areas, creating a sense of space and peace. In the bedroom however, she introduced a pop of colour with some mustard chairs and accessories. The wide mustard stripes to the rear of the bed retain the coastal theme. Lisa has included many custom made features in this design, such as the yacht-inspired window seats and kitchen cabinetry and also the ship board planks on the walls as seen in the kitchen and bathroom. Lisa also loves the art of Teri Malo which features in the loft and living area.

Above: A beautifully designed wooden kitchen - The suspended lamps remind me of the sails on yachts. This entire space is perfectly balanced.
Above: The wallpaper is original, early edition nautical charts that Lisa re-purposed for wallpaper in the nautical themed study area.
Above: A contemporary sink has been mounted into a re-purposed cupboard. Lisa says wiping on mineral oil will help seal the wood if you want a 'raw' look. The more the oil soaks up the more repellent the wood will be come to water.

Overall this interior has a special feeling which conveys through the beautiful photography of Eric Roth. Neutral colours have been combined with textures to create something really special. You could never call this 'boring beige'. I am so glad I stumbled across these rooms as it has helped me with the direction I am heading towards for the re-decoration of my bedroom.

Beautiful home. Must be nice to have that kind of money. The art is gorgeous. For 5 or 6 thousand dollars, it should be. Looks like your sitting right on the beach.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carol for taking time to comment, yes it really is a lovely home. I myself, live in a small cottage, albeit not far from the sea but very simple, nothing like this lovely home. However I am re-decorating on a very tight budget and made it into a welcoming home without having lots of money to do so. This includes making my own linen headboards and re-finishing some furniture to get the look I want.
DeleteWhen you see something you like, there are ways and means to re-create a look without it costing a fortune. Chalk paint is a magical ingredient that you can use to do up old or new pieces of second hand furniture to create a coastal look for next to nothing. Also with regards to the painting, yes expensive but again, if you wanted something similar you could re-create this look on a store bought canvas with acrylic paints. I am an artist myself, I do plan to create a post on how to make a painting without having artists skills, so please look out for it :)

Lee, I love the spaces you choose to feature because your aesthetic is so light and lovely. I'm still new to this whole blogging thing and have to fine tune a way to ensure I see the blogs I really enjoy on a regular basis. I looked back at your last few posts and I really see a specific aesthetic emerge that I very much enjoy. I'm not sure if it's where I am located (outside New York), but so many people seem to be moving towards dark wood (especially in the kitchen) and the lighter colors (or non-colors) really resonate so much more with me. The kitchen here is particularly wonderful... :-)
