There is no denying this home's coastal style from the moment you enter the front door and spot the antique, model ship and pair of oars. Subtle shades of blue and white can be seen in the living area with accents of bright blue as can be seen in the print above. In contrast, the bedrooms have a contemporary look with pops of pink, and graphic patterns of black and white with touches of orange. Interior designer Kate Jackson takes a modern approach, blending new and old to create a coastal, cottage look with contemporary appeal in this lovely home.
You may perceive coastal interiors as nautical blue and white, however I feel that taking this approach for an entire space can sometimes be a little cold which is why I like Kate's take on coastal. Kate has introduced different textures such as natural wood, both light and dark, metal such as the copper in some of the lighting, and interspersed it with pattern such as the area rugs and soft furnishing. Kate scours antique shops, high end design stores, even ebay to complete her unique designs. If you would like to see more of Kate's projects, I have added a link at the end of this post.
