Summer Thornton is the designer behind this Florida vacation home. Designing a mood is in not a simple task, however if the architecture of the building works with the mood one is trying to create, it must surely inspire the designer. Summer has introduced patterned tiles in areas such as the kitchen splash back and outdoor entertaining area, similar tiles abound in Mediterranean homes. Blue and white (my personal favourite) intermingle with orange tones in the living space. Orange brings an instant lift and reminds me of the tropical looking Bird of Paradise plants. The bird prints on the wall are not unlike a project I featured on the blog a while back, a step by step tutorial on making decorative wall art, if you haven't read it, you might want to catch up after this post. Overall this holiday home has an eclectic, Mediterranean feel, I say 'eclectic' because of the mix of furniture Summer's introduced. Chinese, antique pieces, rattan, blue and white, all thoughtful pieces that compliment each other.
I have to keep looking over these photos as each time I spot something different. Blue and white chinoiserie and black iron lighting can be typical of a Hamptons style home, however with the eclectic choice of furnishing and bold colour combinations Summer has used, this home is far from Hamptons. I think this is what I love most about Summer's work, her style is refreshingly different. Please visit her website Summer Thornton Design.com to view more of her wonderful environments.
