Kick Back and Relax In a Small, Fredericksburg Cottage

As far as I am concerned there is nothing more delightful than a country cottage, the perfect retreat from the worries of city life. Standing as if it has been there forever, you could be mistaken for thinking this cottage is located in the countryside of Australia or the South Island of of New Zealand, it would certainly look at home in either of those locations, just as it does in Fredericksburg USA, where it was built.

Shingles and Shutters Adorn a New Build

I love homes with character, especially the traditional look of shutters and shingles, they are almost like the 'icing on the cake', so to speak. Looking at this beautiful architecture you may easily be fooled this home is over 100 years old, however it is actually a new build in traditional style.

Cape Dutch House - Florida

When I came across a Cape Dutch house in Coral Gables, Florida, the architecture reminded me a little of the Spanish mission houses built in the early 1900's in New Zealand. The stucco exterior and terracotta tiled roof, not to mention the architectural curves are similar to the Spanish mission houses, however, the architecture of the Cape Dutch style has a charming cottage appeal to it.

Colonial Cottage - The last of it's kind

Would you believe this gorgeous 2 storey cottage is the last of its kind in the UK...not only that but it was originally available as a "flat pack" from Harrod's intended for the Indian colonies. It's not so surprising to me re the "flat pack" as we can buy houses in New Zealand by kitset to erect ourselves (if you have a savvy DIY husband or BF), we call them "Kit Sets". It does surprise me though that this is the last of it's kind in the UK, quite sad I think. However this cottage has real appeal and is basically in it's original design. This delightful home is full of whimsy and charm, with surprise pops of colour here and there. With no more hesitation lets step inside...
