High Tea - Vintage Love

Just a short post today, sadly my mum passed away on Monday 6th August after a long battle with cancer. I am thankful, however,  that I could be there for her until the end holding her hand, and that she is no longer suffering.  I will be back posting regularly next week. My mum loved her porcelain and silver so today I'm  sharing some vintage images of items I know she would love...

Collages designed by Lee Caroline, photographs from Style Me Pretty.

My mother had many beautiful possessions similar to the ones above, never locked away but always brought out and used as they should be.

Thank you to all my lovely subscribers who left touching comments on my last post.

I'll be back with more interior design, great recipes and inspiration from the blogasphere in a weeks time.

    1. Thank you for your condolences Kathy, Poppy has been a great comfort, she actually stopped eating for a few days, how amazing is that! Poppy was very close to my mum especially after she came to live with me her last few months.

      Thank you again.

  4. Thinking of you tonight and praying for you. I lost my mother three years ago. It's so hard to see our beloved ones suffer, yet so very hard to let go. Please take care of yourself now--allow yourself lots of rest and all the tears you need to shed. I promise, the pain does lessen.

    1. Thank you Kay for your two messages, I am sorry about your mum, you will understand though how I feel, now I have no one left we are a very small family and my only living relatives now reside in the UK. It will take some time but I do know that pain does lessen with time.

    1. Thank you Kirsty for your words, such a difficult time, far more difficult than I expected. I had thought I was prepared but it hit me like a thud of bricks. I am cuddling poppy lots, she is cuddling me and as I said in a previous comment above she actually stopped eating the day mum passed away for about three days, she would pick at her food and then just leave it, normally she woofs it down and its gone in seconds. Dogs are such sensitive souls.

Thank you again, I will paint now with a goal to achieve my first exhibition in New Zealand in memory of my mum.

  7. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mum, Lee. I love that she used all her beautiful possessions instead of only bringing them out on occasion - as it should be. My thoughts are with you. Take care. x

    1. Thank you Vic for your comment. My friends and I used to giggle at mum getting out all her silver and crystal when people came around for dinner but in hindsight, why keep things locked away as I said, why not used them. She was also the same with her rings she would wear about 4 on a finger and at least three fingers would be full of her jewellry, she loved to wear it.

I gave mum a wonderful send off, I think she would have been really pleased. She didn't want sadness and she loved to dance and so the final piece of music as we left the chapel was "Dancing Queen" by Abba. Her friends loved it as mum used to be very involved in drama groups, in fact at the age of 79 my mother was an extra in Peter Jackson's "King Kong" :)

I thought I was prepared too...how wrong I was. Sounds like she was a wonderful woman with an amazing family. It will get better soon. Thinking of you. Pam x

    1. Thank you Pam for your kind words and understanding of how I feel. I do realise it will get easier but know this will take a long time. Mum was amazing and the cancer actually brought us so much closer.

      Thank you.

  9. So sorry to hear about your Mum passing away. When I was 25 I lost my darling uncle who was only 34 and more like a close friend and I always recall walking into my garden and our dog just cuddling me, they sense when something is wrong and sometimes words aren't enough to express our feelings.

    Amicalement, Leeann x

    1. thank you for your comments, gosh 34 is so young to pass away, how sad. Poppy is very loving and cuddly too and actually stopped eating for three days after mum passed away. Dogs are such intelligent, perceptive and sensitive animals, so much more to them than we realise.

      Thank you.
