A New England Style Home In West Sussex

Auckland's had a week of constant drizzle so I wanted to post a home that conjured up summer sunshine and gentle sea breezes...

At first glance, seeing the 'stars and stripes' flag you could be mistaken for this home's location as the US, when in fact it is in the UK on the West Sussex coast. New England style is a popular design to build in this location and similar homes can be found dotted around the Sussex coastline. The interior of this lovely home is traditional and does feel a little more English in style than some of the American homes of similar style.

Above: Traditional New England homes often feature a little red as an accent colour, so this US flag is the perfect decorative piece

Above: Imagine opening your kitchen doors to the ocean only a few metres away
Above: The paint effect on the kitchen joinery could be replicated with chalk paint and a little distressing
Above: A traditional look to the living/dining area
Above: Shutters look great behind a bed, these frame a large mirror. A few years ago I hung an antique pair above my bed for a French look, but removed them last year when I re-styled my bedroom.
Above: I like the pebble look cushions which mimic the pebble shapes on the bedside lamps
Above: This bedroom was a bit of a surprise. The gold sequin cushions add a touch of femininity to a somewhat masculine bedroom.
Above: Outdoor 'his and her' baths
Above: Imagine living this close to the beach, you could throw open your French doors and wander leisurely down to the sea, no need for a swimming pool here.
