A Californian Beach Cottage Renovation

When putting together a relaxed, coastal theme, good design does not mean cliche blue and white stripes, clusters of white coral and decorative oars, it is about creating a haven that shouts, "come in, sit down and relax" and importantly stamping your style. It can be traditional or contemporary, it may have a Mediterranean feel or it could be rustic and neutral. In the renovation of this Californian beach cottage we see a combination of most of these styles that has come together to create a coastal haven for its owners.

Using colour in way to create a powerful statement in home, yet keep it 'real and relaxed' is not as easy as some may think. Inspired by its owners wide collection of art, the designers of this Sydney apartment have excelled in creating a colourful interior.

The New York Home of Film Maker/Photographer Hans Neleman & His Family

Film-maker and photographer Hans Neleman and fashion designer, Tessa Neleman-Pimontel chose to take on the interior design of their New York suburban home. Together, they have created an imposing residence for their family, reflecting their love of organic materials and antique or re-purposed furniture.  Classic in style with a touch of opulence (as seen in the bedroom). Neutral in colour scheme, but far from neutral in looks, the owners talent for great design stands out in this wonderful home with timeless appeal.

Home Tour - Victorian Exterior...Surprising Interior

Once the village Rectory/Vicarage, every room is a surprise in this converted, late Victorian, early Edwardian home. Drawing elements from different periods and styles, uniting them to create an interesting interior with unexpected surprises. If you are interested to see more images, please use the link at the end of this post.

Above:  Rich, plush velvet sofas set the scene for the monochrome living area. I believe what appears to be a bookshelf on the left hand side is wallpaper

Above: An old apocatherapy cabinet forms the base of a dresser

A welcoming touch of shabby chic

The feeling of a grand manor to the formal dining room, a stunning chandelier made of antlers is the focus

Casual country style kitchen, continuing the soft greys of the living room

Casual kitchen dining with a country feel

I am actually a little unsure about the artwork on the wall whether it is 2 or three dimensional, regardless it is eye catching and works wonderfully with the chrome beds. The small bombe chest adds a pop of colour to the grey scheme

Shutters are so versatile, allowing the light and air to flow through or easy to close for privacy. The red/grey blanket and pillows add warmth to this cool, white room

The wallpaper in this bedroom brings a contemporary look this monochromatic scheme

An Eclectic New Orleans Home

Struck by its bold, colourful artwork I was drawn to the eclectic style of Ray and Kim Martin's New Orleans home. Residence to the couple, their three children, a dog, cat and bird, this interesting home is a haven for its owners. Photographer/stylist Corynne Pless photographed and featured Kim's house on Houzz and after contacting Corynne to say how wonderful I thought the home was, Corynne has kindly allowed me to share her fabulous images with my readers.

Ray and Kim's home is an 1800's Victorian house located in the lovely Uptown neighbourhood of New Orleans. With the help of local architectural designer Marie Palumbo, the couple renovated the property without compromising its original charm. I absolutely love everything about this home, it has so much energy yet there are moments of 'calm' and lovely period charm.

There were far too many images for me to share in one post so I encourage you to visit  Houzz to see many more inspiring images. If you have any questions about this home, you may also find answers in the comments section on the Houzz article.

An entirely ecelectic home - Traditional, contemporary, country, vintage, you name it, this house has it all!

I'm in a terrible rush today, I woke up late and now short of time before my monthly hair dressers appointment. I have to admit Loreal is a bit of a lifesaver when you have a few greys coming through, (well maybe a little more than a few ;). However, after my appointment I have to rush to the fabric shop to choose linen for my headboard and then across town to view some lighting ideas for my guest bedroom, which by the way, is almost complete. I had hoped to bring you a post about "Hampton's style" but its not finalised, therefore, bringing you another house tour, an eclectic home with so much interest and variation it's hard to know which images to share. From classic to contemporary, I have narrowed them down to the most interesting ones, if you would like to view more, I have placed a link at the end of this post.

We hope you have enjoyed this most interesting home.

Eclectic, retro interior

I am still waiting for some of my furniture to complete the makeover of my guest bedroom, so meanwhile I am delighted to share an eclectic and colourful interior. Retro, vintage with a touch of Bohemian would be my description of this interesting home.

When you have white walls and couches, it is so easy to add colour with cushions and rugs.

 A truly eclectic mix.

A mix of bar stools in this simple kitchen layout.

Blue is "oh so pretty! Without giving my age away, anyone remember enamel breadbins?

A striking Mexican mirror.

I love the traditional wood chair repainted in bright pink.

 Touches of blue.

Scraps of wallpaper create an interesting patchwork wall.

 That lovely pink again.

An eclectic mix of colour and pattern.

A simple way to display artwork.

Still in trend, desk lamps for bedside reading.  The pop of pink is a surprise in the blue and white bedroom.

I love these old stretched oils.
