Caramelised Figs With Maple Mascapone - 5 Minute Recipe

I love fresh figs and I also love Donna Hay's recipes so when a friend gave me an abundance of fresh figs from her garden last weekend, I knew exactly the recipe I wanted to try. This recipe comes from Donna Hay's 'Fast, Fresh, Simple', a really lovely book with lots of quick and easy recipes. The images are the results of my cooking and taken with my 35mm camera. 


Caramelised Figs With Maple Mascapone

Ingredients (serves 4 persons):

6 fresh figs halved
half a cup brown sugar
250grams of Mascapone
half a cup (80ml) maple syrup

Method:
  • Slice your whole figs in half
  • Press each half, cut side down, into your sugar making sure it is well coated
  • Heat up a non stick frypan and place the sugar side face down in your pan. Cook for 10 to 15 seconds until the sugar is melted and starts to caramelise
  • Remove from pan and place on serving plate (3 halves per person)
  • Place a scoop of mascapone beside the figs (about a desert spoon size)
  • Indent the middle of the mascapone with the back of a teaspoon 
  • Fill the indent with some Maple syrup and serve immediately
Tip:

Make sure you don't have the heat up too high on your fry pan as the sugar can burn

    1. Thanks Suzanne for the kind comments about my photography. I am still coming to terms with using my camera and not yet able to do it justice but learning each time. The figs most certainly are a great desert to serve your closest girl-friends. An indulgent but fairly healthy desert.

  4. Hi folks - I'm new and I'm not Andrew F Smith... I'm The Wife who blogs on food, mostly raw, some cooked. I have to figure out how to change over his name to mine.
    Anyway, I, too am enjoying figs from our tree. Competition with the sweet, wee silver eyes is fierce but they don't know that. Plenty to share with them.
    Favourite serving is cultured cream cheese with perfectly ripe chopped figs. Milk kefir or Caspian Sea yoghurt will do but I'm loving the cream cheese. It's my latest 'find'. Homemade.
    I'm devouring these delectables several times a day with or with the creamy additions.

    1. Thank you for taking time to comment, wife of Andrew F Smith :). The sound of figs with cultured cream cheese sounds divine. I will try to get some more figs from my friends this weekend if the birds haven't beaten me to it. I will check out your food blog.

      I only blog recipes now and again since getting my new camera, I love to use the 35mm for shots and have been practising.
