Tour a Florida Coast Beauty

I have always maintained that no matter your location, if you want your home to have a relaxed, coastal feel regardless whether you live in the middle of a desert or small, country village, you can still achieve this. Today's tour is a long way from the desert, but we can learn some things about creating a coastal feel by carefully exploring its wonderful spaces.

MHK architecture are the designers of this beach side home in Naples, Florida. I am unsure of the interior designer on this project, but without a doubt they have a flair for getting the best out of the architecture of a home. When browsing these images, look at the natural items used throughout, especially image 3 and 7 where woven driftwood makes a statement.

Above: Balance the height of a soaring ceiling with a stunning rustic chandelier and make a statement on the wall with artwork or a sculptural piece such as the woven driftwood seen above. Raw textures enliven this space
Above: blue is the perfect accent colour for a coastal home. It doesn't have to be traditional navy or pale blue and white stripes, shades of blue such as seen in this chest work wonderfully too
I always maintain the use of lots of texture in predominantly white interiors and love these chunky bar stools. The addition of the wooden ceiling adds warmth to the kitchen
Natural wood instantly warms up an eclectic dining space

Anyone can see the importance of natural wood and texture in a coastal interior, it warms up, balances and relaxes a home that is predominately white.

  1. I agree... an all white home needs to be grounded by warm wood tones.
Ironically enough, we , my husband and I were just in Naples this weekend. We left our home in North Central Florida on Thursday and drove down to Miami and slowly took a leisurely trip back up the west coast admiring beach homes and gardens and stopping to wade in and enjoy the beaches.
This is a beautiful example of the homes we saw.
    Thanks for sharing Lee .

    1. Thanks for taking time to comment Gee, what a small world that you visited the location of this home. I bet it was lovely driving back admiring those gorgeous houses. I haven't been to Florida, only California but one day plan to visit Florida and will definitely check out Naples. NZ seems so far away from everywhere unfortunately.
