An East Hamptons Cottage

1
The photographer of this charming cottage certainly tweaked my interest when I saw this shot, these cute little guys may look a bit apprehensive about posing for this photo, however the image below shows how relaxed they are about their charming home.

Michael Grimm is the photographer behind the lens of this East Hamptons home, shot for Hamptons Cottages and Garden Magazine in 2014. When photographing the interior or exterior of a home, the image should capture a mood, a sense of belonging, a glimpse into the lives of those that live there. Great interior photography is not about adding props and styling, it is about capturing the essence of its owners and what makes their home their sanctuary. This may be a collection of artwork, antiques or the overall style of a home. It may have a coastal or country feel, or it may feel like you are in the middle of Provence when in fact you are in a city suburb on the other side of the world. Each image should tell a story, allowing the viewer to see beyond a space or a piece of furniture and to understand the owner's passions. Michael has certainly achieved this with his wonderful photography, where every image tells a story and reveals a little more about the people (pets) that live there.

  1. Hi Lee, this is an interesting house. I think it's design feels a bit confused. the bedrooms and one lounge area are quite modern and light and airy, but then the other rooms are heavy and old fashioned in some ways, not the light airy look i envision with hamptons style. Though i did love the linen press!

    1. Sorry for the late reply Jane, for some reason a few of your comments have ended up in my spam comments and I am just going through them now, I haven't seen any comments from you for a while and this is why.

As for this cottage, it is interesting and I certainly can understand why you say it is a bit confusing as it does have some contradictory design. It is not so much Hamptons in Style but it is Hamptons in location, it is a small traditional (one of the original homes) in the Hamptons. Hamptons originally was a destination, not a design style but has become known as a design style as people have built more modern homes in this location which are obviously more light filled and of the style I think you are talking about. I thought this home had some quirks that readers would enjoy :)
