Mud Spaces for Small Hallways

1. The perfect mini mudroom - image by Charlie Kingham

Not everyone has the luxury of a separate mudroom, however, with some thoughtful design, even a small hallway or entry can achieve organisation for coats, hats, shoes and the dog paraphernalia many of us accrue.

Hamptons Style on the Sunshine Coast

Although we Kiwi's claim the 'pavlova' as ours, looking at this gorgeous Sunshine Coast home, I believe that Hamptons style may have snuck into Aussie first.

The Perfect Home Office/Study 'Nook'

I am finally back after a long Christmas/New Year break from the blog and I've have had a pretty lazy holiday, apart from Christmas day where I had 11 for lunch but it was all fun. I have however, been working on re-landscaping my tiny back garden and thinking about re-locating my old office into my new studio, in saying that I don't want it to become an entire office, I was thinking more a small built in area or a floating desk. Office nooks are becoming popular and with the smaller home builds architects and interior designers are becoming very clever at creating these perfectly formed and aesthetically pleasing spaces.

Tips on Choosing Art for a Coastal Inspired or Hamptons Interior

San Clemente
Photo by Blackband Design - I chose this image of water because of the restful movement and colours. This art would also work well in a bedroom because of its almost hypnotic effect

Choosing artwork can be quite a challenge regardless of your home's style, have you ever taken a piece of art home to find it doesn't suit its surroundings, it's a very disappointing feeling as art is not just visual, it can be quite an expensive investment. If you have a neutral, Hamptons style home, when it comes to art, the world is your oyster as long as you remember a few important points.

Update on my Beach House- The Feature Fireplace

Recently I shared the progress of my beach house, this week it's about the fireplace. I have a thing about fireplaces, my very first home didn't have one and I felt like something was missing. Every home I have lived in since has had a fireplace so it was natural that I would want to make a feature fireplace at the beach house.

I have been a fan of Blackband Design for some time now, they have a fabulous way with colour and pattern and a many of their interiors are coastal inspired which is a style I am growing to love dearly. Successful interior design has to be the perfect balance of colour, pattern and texture and Blackband always get it right.

Overdue Update on Master Bedroom

I have been promising a reveal of my master bedroom for some time now. The delay is several things of which I am sure you don't want to hear all my excuses, however the main one is I have simply run out of money to complete the room. The main part such as the shutters behind the bed, side tables and bed linen, are now in place so I thought I had better post an update.

Kitchen Inspiration - Week One, Hamptons Style

Last Friday I featured a post on butlers pantries and one of my readers made a comment on Facebook that she was looking for some kitchen ides. Of course a kitchen comes before a butlers pantry, so I decided to create a few posts on different kitchen styles, beginning today with my favourite style, 'Hamptons'.

Relaxed Living Spaces

1
Gone is the separate formal lounge of the past, today's living is about being able to interact with family and friends while in different work or relaxation zones of your home. When it comes to designing a space that is open-plan it is important that there is continuity in the interior design. As well as your choice of furniture style, it is important to look carefully at the layout to make sure that all your areas 'flow' and it is easy for people to move from one space to another. I have gathered some interior design inspiration to give you an idea of relaxed, open plan spaces and have also included some cosy living areas that I feel are aesthetically pleasing to the eye as well as having a functional layout.
