A Coastal Retreat by Digs Design Company

Newport Home

Living by the coast is a must for me, I might be able to swap it for the country if I had acres and a horse, but being able to walk my little dog along the beach in the morning on a sunny day can make all your troubles seem small. I believe in extending this feeling to your home, whether you live by the beach or a million miles away and I don't mean filling your house with little wooden yachts, anchors and such, just contrasting blue and white in different shades, introducing natural textures against a fresh, neutral background that may fool you into feeling your on a constant holiday. This Newport retreat has it all and I know you will find plenty to inspire.

Digs Design Company are behind this beautiful coastal interior. Fresh as the sea air this Newport beach home features varying shades of blue and reminds me of time I spent in the Greek Islands as a teenager. Whenever I see white walls like the ones in this home, I want to grab a paintbrush and roller and whizz around my living area as I have never been quite happy with the shade I chose.

Choosing the right white for a coastal retreat can be tricky, I prefer whites that lean towards being more of a clean white and not throwing strange colours as most whites do. My favourite white at the moment is half Sea fog, a barely there, black edged white. I have used this colour in my new studio and plan to extend it to my living room.

So, let's begin the tour...

Newport Home
The blue front door greets visitors, the shade of blue has been carried through to the striped stair runner. A circular table is perfect to display a few decorative pieces, and not a sail boat in sight

Wooden floors always add some warmth when your palette is predominantly white. I also love whitewashed floors but feel they are better if you are situated right on the beach and your house is almost spilling onto the sand
Newport Home
Blue also features in the kitchen and dining room in upholstery and blue and white decorative items

A traditional style kitchen is perfect for a beach cottage, soft turquoise has been introduced with the bar stools. Pops of vivid blue are dotted around such as the Le Cruset pot on the stove

I am not a 100% sure on the tone of beige in these sofas, I would have gone a couple of shades lighter. Using cushions and upholstering chairs to add pattern is the perfect way to make a space appear more interesting

Texture is very important in creating a relaxed look, the seagrass Ottoman is the perfect piece for a relaxing corner

Instead of using decorative coastal items, using printed fabric can add that nautical touch without going overboard

This bedroom could suit any style of interior. If you look closely,  the fabric on the chair is a contemporary design of fishes
Newport Home
A feminine room of pink blue and green is perfect for a little girl
Newport Home
Mediterranean shades of blue are seen in the mosaic tiles on the floor of the bathroom. The chunky, painted stool makes a bold statement and the perfect piece for a child to climb onto to reach the basin

Relaxing, pale, shades of blue for the master suite which has its own reading nook below

The rear door is painted the same as the front door for and a rug continues the blue theme

If you want to feel as relaxed outside as you do inside your home, let your decorating spill outside and keep the coastal vibe going with traditional Adirondack chairs, a coffee table and some decorative items

I hope you've enjoyed today's tour, it has definitely inspired me with a little project that I have on the go at the moment which I will be sharing in the not too distant future.

Enjoy the rest of your week
