Farmhouse Style in South Carolina

When I hear the word farmhouse, it conjures up images of a rambling stone building with mullioned windows, muddy boots in the hallway and a bridle alongside the dog lead. However, this couldn't be further from the truth in this light filled, Carolina, Farmhouse.

A Contemporary, Californian Farmhouse

As a design blogger, I am constantly looking at beautiful homes and gathering ideas for myself and others and I believe this exposure has influenced me greatly in being a little more adventurous with my own interior style. I used to have a house full of antique pieces but now I prefer a mix of contemporary and traditional furniture. I still love traditional style, however I realise the most interesting spaces are when designers mix things up, especially in a building that has contemporary architecture and this is why I love this Californian Farmhouse so much.

A Modern Farmhouse Built with the Character it Deserves

Reading over this post I realise I might have come over a little strong when it comes to my comment on some of the new homes built in New Zealand. I refer not to private, architecturally designed homes but those built by speculators to make a quick dollar. I also realise that not everyone can afford to have an architecturally designed home, however, I am sure that even with a modest budget, some re-cycled materials could be included to add charm and character to the lower end market. In saying this, the home I am sharing today is definitely the high end of the market but if you are thinking of building a new home that feels like it has stood the test of time, I hope you can draw some inspiration from it.

Country Style Living - Creating a relaxed, country look.

1.

Country style interiors  have always been popular posts. A country look can be rustic or soft, classic or mixed with contemporary pieces. A rustic wooden table combined with contemporary, Louis ghost chairs is a modern country look. Anything goes these days, you don't have to stick to strict rules as long as you adhere to a few essential ingredients.

A Tuscan Farmhouse In Suburbia USA - Inside Interior Designer Lisa Gabrielson's Home

Above: The welcoming entrance to Lisa's  Italian style, farmhouse retreat

When it comes down to great design, no matter the style, the difference between a good designer and a 'great' designer is the overall ambiance a room or home exudes. Something so special that when someone walks in they not only instantly admire it but they immediately feel relaxed, happy and want to spend time in the room/house. Designing a space is not about creating a 'show home' atmosphere it is about respecting the client's brief but giving them a home to be loved and lived in -  a retreat from the frantic world outside our front doors. And, this is exactly what Interior Designer, Lisa Gabrielson achieved when she turned a suburban American home, into a Tuscan, farmhouse retreat for herself and her family.

A Designers Farmhouse in Sierra De Tramontana

When renovating an older building, yet introducing a contemporary feel, it should be done with respect, I don't think it is an easy task for an architect or interior designer to get the balance right. However, in the case of this Mallorcan home with its mountain outlook, Damian Sanchez and his designers, achieved what I think is the perfect balance.

Flemish Longhouse/Farmhouse - A Rustic, Contemporary Blend

I adore a rustic look but not so rustic that you feel like your living in a log cabin. When I spotted this farmhouse renovation, I immediately thought the designer had found the right balance.

Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover

A while ago I featured a lovely bedroom makeover by Becky at Buckets of Burlap, today I'm sharing Becky's Farmhouse kitchen. Becky hasn't yet posted her before and after photos so at this point your seeing the "after" and believe me its really gorgeous. Becky's husband is obviously as talented as Becky when it comes to creativity and between them they've designed and built this gorgeous farmhouse kitchen. Thanks Becky for allowing me to share these images with my readers.  If you want to see more images of her kitchen I have added a link at the end of this post.
