Boho Chic

1.  Image via Mercer Interior

The word, 'boho' may conjure up a riotous mix of colours and patterns, muddle these together in a messy but creative way and throw in some greenery and you may have the boho of the past. However, today boho can be far more chic, in fact.....'boho chic'.

Which Shade of Blue Denotes a Restful Interior

Design by Cottage Company of Harbor Springs

Blue and white are my favourite combination, however as blue comes in many shades and tones, what blue works best if you want to create a restful atmosphere.

A Christmas House Tour

I love to peek inside the homes of other bloggers, especially when they are decked out for the holidays, these talented people may not be trained interior designers, however, they are just as creative. Blogger Susan from Saw Nail & Paint has the most delightful cottage style house beautifully decked out for the holiday season.

A Coastal Retreat by Digs Design Company

Newport Home

Living by the coast is a must for me, I might be able to swap it for the country if I had acres and a horse, but being able to walk my little dog along the beach in the morning on a sunny day can make all your troubles seem small. I believe in extending this feeling to your home, whether you live by the beach or a million miles away and I don't mean filling your house with little wooden yachts, anchors and such, just contrasting blue and white in different shades, introducing natural textures against a fresh, neutral background that may fool you into feeling your on a constant holiday. This Newport retreat has it all and I know you will find plenty to inspire.

While researching for my post on 'How to Select Lighting for a Coastal Look'I came across a home full of layers, textures and stunning vignettes and spotted the small cabinet above and went ooh! how I would love that in my entrance way.

Spaces to Love Week 7 - A Cape Cod Style Home

While looking for this weeks 'Spaces to Love', I came across a traditional Cape Cod home with an interior that was a little bit different, and it wasn't just one space I fell in love with it was the entire house.

Interior Spaces to Love - Week 4

1. Touches of raw timber in a predominantly white space add warmth - use the link at the end of this post to tour this Sag Harbour home

Sorry for not posting Wednesday, I have had a hectic week with family commitments and almost didn't have time to put together this weeks 'Interior Spaces to Love'. However, as I am addicted to browsing gorgeous homes there isn't a day that goes by that I don't spot something on Pinterest or Houzz so here are this weeks discoveries...

Picking the Right Stripe for Your Home

1.
Do you love or loathe stripes? I absolutely love them but how do you know which stripe is right for your style of living. The width, colour and direction of a stripe can completely change the feeling of a space.

Interior Spaces I Love - Week 1

I spend hours looking at beautiful interiors, I peruse places like Houzz or Pinterest or bring stacks of magazines and books home from the library. I am not always drawn to a particular style, sometimes it's a lovely vignette, artwork or simply a cushion that catches my eye. It could be a texture, colour or pattern, a piece of furniture, or maybe it is an entire space. I have decided therefore, to create a weekly post discussing some of these inspiring images with my readers, so read on to find out what I love about this week's gorgeous selection of interiors...

Tips to Selecting the Perfect Rug

1. Soft Geometric Rug as seen in Elle from Cox & Cox

A rug is the perfect way to introduce colour, pattern or texture to a space. Rugs can be used to help define and add beauty to a room, however, choosing the perfect rug does involve a few important points to consider.

A Kensington Home in Shades of Blue and Grey

I love blue but have never been brave enough to use it on my walls or kitchen cabinetry, I guess in the back of my mind I am thinking about re-sale and neutrals are so safe. However in this large, modernised, Kensington home, smoky blue works perfectly with the traditional/contemporary interior and shades of grey in other areas of the home.

Heating Your Home With Style - Best Heating

It is spring in NZ, well it certainly was this morning but now the rain is back and another cold snap with it and I am ashamed to say I have just turned my noisy heat pump back on. The promotional brochure, stated 'quiet', however quiet it is not! How I wish I had central heating, when we lived in the UK my whole house was toasty and silent, I wonder, is it because I conjure up images of those cumbersome radiators found in our state schools. Central heating designs have come a long way since the days of those old fashioned curvatures. I took a look around the Internet and discovered vertical and horizontal designs befitting the most contemporary homes.

Be Bold With Black

1.

If you are like me, possibly the largest bulk of black in your home is the 45" digital TV that one simply can't disguise (I often find myself wondering why we don't see white TV's). Today I want to actually welcome black in a decorating palette and see how interior designers have used it to create some stunning spaces.

The Work of Virginia, Interior Designer Pat Bibbee

There is usually one day of the week I devote some time to visiting the local library and when I do, more often than not I come back with a mountain of magazines and several design books. Sometimes they are so heavy, it means two trips to the car. One of my latest library acquisitions, is a book about some of Americas top, leading residential designers, appropriately titled 'Leading Residential Interior Designers". A book showing the varied styles of Designers in the USA, including designer Pat Bibbee, whose work stood out to me.

Modern Mid-century Inside & Out For This 60's Townhouse

With mid-century design continuing to trend, the owners of this 60's, 5 storey townhouse, decided it was worthy to retain the buildings heritage and work with it. With its predominantly white paintwork, pops of colour have been added throughout the rooms using soft furnishing and collectible items. With plenty of space to decorate, the owners have filled their home with a mix of contemporary and mid-century furniture, creating a spacious home, with a somewhat Scandinavian, mid-century feel.

It Is All In The Detail - A Chelsea, Terraced House - Part One

While searching for inspiration for 'A Stylists Favourite Tool For Tabletop Vignettes', I included a photo of a minimalist styled tray with white coral, crystal and blue agate. The image was taken in the living room of a Chelsea, terraced house. The interior of this home attracted me immediately. Thoughtfully designed, with a mass of creative flair, a wonderful blend of colour and design. I feel this home has a somewhat glamorous appeal in the way the finishing touches have been added, it is cohesive, yet uncontrived. I loved it so much I wanted to take you on a 'visual' tour.

A Stylists Favourite Tool for Creating Tabletop Vignettes

In January, I wrote a post about styling coffee tables, today I want to explore the use of a tray, a simple tool stylists often use to create table top vignettes. Styling a vignette does not take a mathematical genius with a degree in design, following these five simple steps will help you on your way.
